Soyabean: All Prices Are in Quintal
Description
Soyabean, often called the "Gold of the Soil," is a powerhouse crop that has revolutionized the rural economy in states like Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and parts of Rajasthan. It is a unique Kharif (monsoon) crop because it acts as both a pulse and an oilseed, making it one of the most versatile commodities in the global market.
Soyabean is a favorite for many growers because it is a relatively "low-maintenance" crop that does a lot of work for the land while it grows.
Sowing Window: Usually planted with the arrival of the first monsoon rains in June or July.
Climate: It loves warm, humid weather. While it needs good rainfall during the flowering stage, it prefers dry weather as the pods begin to mature.
Soil Benefits: Being a legume, it fixes nitrogen back into the earth. This naturally "recharges" the soil, ensuring that the following Rabi crop (like Wheat or Sarso) gets a healthy, fertile start.
The demand for Soyabean rarely dips because it feeds multiple industries at once:
Edible Oil: It is a primary source of refined cooking oil used in almost every Indian household.
DOC (De-Oiled Cake): After the oil is extracted, the remaining "cake" is a high-protein ingredient that is exported globally as premium poultry and cattle feed.
Protein Industry: From Soya chunks and milk to Tofu, the rising health-conscious population is driving up domestic demand.
The "Yellow" Factor: Buyers look for clean, bright yellow seeds. Blackened or shriveled seeds caused by untimely rains during harvest can lead to price deductions.
Moisture Content: Mandis prefer moisture levels below 10-12%. High moisture not only lowers the price but makes the seeds prone to fungus during storage.
Global Connection: Soyabean prices in India are closely tied to the CBOT (Chicago Board of Trade) and the production levels in Brazil and the USA.
